That is Emma because when I was looking earlier it kept bringing up Emma White and I have just seen she married John White in 1880 reg. Stroud.

I thought I might try and have another go at finding Charles and Ann in the 1871, 1881, 1891 and Ann as a widow in 1901 census.

I do think they were alive because I have found a Charles Houldey aged 75 died Dec qtr 1894 Gloucester 6a 175.

And Ann Houldey aged 78 Dec qtr 1902 Cheltenham 6a 295.

How far back have you traced your Mansell line? I have Mansells/Maunsells in the Guiting Power and Buckland areas in the 16th and 17th centuries, but have yet to trace them further.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

I start my tree off with a Richard Mansell marrying a Joannah Jackson at Dowdeswell  in 1748.

They had at least two children Thomas bapt. 25/12/1748 and Alice bapt. 3/2/1754 at Dowdeswell.

Yes, thank you Capetown. I did not have some of that information. They all belong to "my" Mansells.
From what I understand, the Alexander family married into the Mansell family, and later assumed the alias. I have yet to find the actual marriage; it likely took place pre parish registers.
Thomas Alexander alias Mansell, whose will was proved in 1605, was the father of Ambrose and Ciprian. His daughter Susan is my direct ancestor.
Anthony Mansell was the son of Ciprian I believe.
Regarding your ancestors, Alan, there are several trees on Ancestry that say that your Richard was baptised in Withington. Have you found any connection?

I have not seen that baptism image, but would like to for proof, its the right area. The first sight of Richard I have is the marriage image to Joannah Jackson. I have no access to Ancestry since Covid. I would think one of them has found it and the others have copied  :) :). Alan
