1861 Eastwood census  finds agnes aged 31 as a steam loom weaver and janet aged 72 was something I can't make out ..looks like formerly heddel laster.

Their status looks like both m  for married

They have one room with a window and share the house with 3 other ladies

Not an easy life !

Janet's death in 1867 was bronchial she was still at main St ....number not given

Janet's parents were Alexander Renfrew and Agnis Dunlop
I found her 1788 birth and a sister Agnes in 1805

their 1787 marriage was  also in Eastwood
so that's another generation .

I have found the death of Agnes McDermid, sister of Duncan. She died on 26th August 1896 at Leelaw Muir, Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire and was single, a Pauper (Lunatic) age 66. Father was John McDermid, Soldier (dec'd) and mother was Janet McDermid nee Renfrew (dec'd). Informant was Thomas Hannah, Occupier, present at death.
I managed to locate the death as I had found Agnes in Lesmahgow in the 1891 census.

Thanks again yisobel you are a genius ....so now I have a bit more info for John

Poor Agnes she can't have been a lunatic in 1861 to manage a power loom

I ll get my map out again for lesmahgow  I hope not too far from her brother and nephews in old monkland

Also better get more credits on SP if I want to see the original of 1871 census can you tell me how her name was transcribed on that please as I.m having a lot of trouble with the SP searches

. there is also an Agnes  macdermid on an 1891 census aged 64 in old monkland

Near her brother (Edit Very near as this one is Duncan's wife...I must be overdosing on agnes es)

The exact spelling search  on SP threw up Agnes in1871 aged40 and 1881 aged 54 both in Eastwood  so I.d better check them too

Ive no idea where lesmahagow is

The Agnes in Old Monkland is Duncan's wife Agnes Nee McFarlane. The Lesmahagow death has the correct parents and the 1891 census entry in Lesmahagow gives place of birth as Pollockshaws.

Oops sorry I was just about to alter that

Have looked at the census es

1891 she was a boarder imbecile aged 64

Ten years earlier she was still a cotton weaver aged 54 unmarried at king St

In1871 she was also at king St as a steam loom weaver aged 40 with another unmarried woman as a boarder

Spent a lot of time on SP   checking that out and laughing at myself when I realised I.d checked out her sister in law in 1891
I didn't have that one .

Her brother duncan was still a cloth dryer aged 67 and his wife Agnes died in 1902

No other signs of their father John tho some possible births in Barony
given by a helpful lady on G R
John son of John mcdermaid/ janet steward 1787

Or john son of Duncan Mcdermit /Mary Mitchell June 1805  would make him 15 odd years younger than wife
But father's first name would match his sons

Have had another look at those original documents

1841 there doesn't seem to be a column for married or single
The letters for 15 year old Agnes Renfrew s job were p L w and someone wrote cotton above so I guess it is power loom weaver

Janet's parents Alexander Renfrew a weaver and Agnes Dunlop named on Old parish birth reg of Janet's sister Agnes b1805
Witnesses were Robert Pinkerton and Daniel Kennedy

The 1851 census has a clear w for Janet mcDarmid widow
Thank it's um unmarried for Agnes age 24

Despite the various transcriptions on searches the orig 1861 has their surname spelt as McDiarmid
Still can't read Janet's  former profession is there such a thing as a treadle laster ?

I tried all the spellings fuzzy matches phonetic starts with and all types of churches in Old parish registers but nothing came up for John's children Agnes + Duncan McD

between 1820 and 1830
in Glasgow or
Lanarkshire
on SP

even with just their first names + parents John + Janet as parents names  ..no results

would ancestry/FindMyPast or geni  reveal any other possibilities ?

SP found Janet + Agnes census once you had given me exact spelling on transcription .
I need to buy more credits if I do find the births

would really like to know who Johns family was + where they originated from .
