1861 - the census only has 1 household in Brewhouse Green (!!) and 2 in Parsonage Green (Edward Burrell and Thomas Orford b1817, got him!!); it's then Snow Street until you hit Darrow Lane.

Snow Street, Brewer's Green and Darrow Lane are still know under those names (or near enough).

1881 Thomas Orford listed as simply Snow Street. He's only 8 properties from Glebe Cottage, Occupied by one Alfred Orford.

1871 - in the order listed page 23 goes: Brewhouse Green, BlackBoard farm, Old Parsonage, Snow Street - occupied by Thomas Orford.

That's all rather helpful!

Thomas Orford's 1843 wedding (Roydon) gives his abode as just Roydon Fen.

1851 census;

Brewer's Green, Farrow's Farm, Old Parsonage, Parsonage Green (again with Thomas Orford directly after Old Parsonage), Roydon Street, Banyards Green.

(sounds like Snow Street has become Roydon Street for this census)

So (with due deference to the early posters in this thread) it does indeed look like parsonage green is exactly where you'd have guessed !

I just took a look at the "Kitchens of Roydon" in FreeReg.

They're a little complex. Lots of records though, they just need sorting out.

the corresponding scans are on familysearch here

How strange you were from Kenninghall. There is a Kitchen here in the records.

Another look at the censuses I think. Thank you for those.

I have discovered there are Kitchens in Mendlesham Suffolk and that is where my ancestor Susanna Kitchen moved to after her marriage in Roydon to John Reynolds. I haven't come across a marriage for William and Susan Wallis yet so may be they came from Suffolk. Will have to check.

We went for lunch yesterday at the White Hart after driving up Hall Lane through Snow Street and Brewers Green. A lovely area full of old houses.
We didn't manage to search the churchyard as the rain was torrential so another trip called for plus another meal.  ;D ;D

That's interesting - A William Kitchen married a Sarah Fox in Mendlesham, 04 Dec 1812

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NJK6-65R

With subsequent births in Roydon

e.g. Thomas Kitchen in 1826

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N6TG-GRK

If the Mendlesham bride/groom and the Roydon parents are the same people we have an interesting Mendlesham/Roydon connection.
