Are you still able to contact the daughter who has the marriage cert to get full details of the actual date of the 1909 marriage?

No she died in 2005.

Only one Hannah Hall death in Rochdale between 1901-1911  Aged 61 - December qtr 1908

But there is another 1901 entry for a Hannah Hall in Rochdale b 1847 so probably her

That might be her, although it's a couple of years older. Also she may not have stayed in the area. Again, might be worth contacting the local office. Thanks

I can't find that one!

We know she was alive at the time of the 1901 census, although obviously she could have died later that year. However, every census indicates that she was born in 1849.

That 1908 death seemed feasible until I found the other 1901 entry who was married and also born and living in Rochdale.  No trace of that Hannah Hall or her husband on the 1911 to rule her out

Have you already investigated the possibility they divorced?

wouldn't be surprised if he just upped and left - he had previously deserted from his apprenticeship on board ship once, if not twice, before his marriage. there's then a Samuel Hall the right age crewing the Pavonia from Liverpool in Jan 1900. He deserted in Capetown
