Marriage bet Alfred Burls and Hannah possibly Wibrew or Cowlin abt 1847

Unfortunately a bit of guess work here in an attempt to get some traction on ancestors in Essex.

George Alfred Burls died in Victoria, Australia in 1919 and his death record for the state BDM notes his father as George Alfred Burls and Hannah Cowlin.  Other researchers on Anc have either Cowlin or Wibrew/Wybrew.  Other researchers have his father as Alfred Burls.

Alfred Burls [George Alfred's father] a wheelwright died 20 May 1885 Messing, Essex - a son Fred Burls was an Executor.

To date I located the 1881 Census record for Alfred, a widower aged 56 noting he was born at Messing with his daughters Emily 24 [born abt 1856] and Sarah 15 both born at Messing [RG11/1798/54 p 10] . 

I am hoping to locate a Parish Record for Alfred's marriage abt 1847 to demonstrate who was his wife...Hanah Cowlin [as per his death record] or Hannah Wibrew/Wybrew as per some Anc researchers.  I have been unable to locate any Parish Records to date.

Both signed
One witness was an Eliza Burls

There is also a death for a Hannah Burls registered in Witham, September 1877. The age at death ties up with the age at marriage.

On the marriage record, Alfred Burls father is recorded as Thomas Cowling, also a wheelwright. This may explain the confusion.

Hello again Mark,

What is confusing is listing Thomas Cowling as the father of Alfred Burls.  Now this is going to prove most interesting trying to locate Alfred's birth. 

Some on Anc have him born/baptised 15 Dec 1824 at Messing and baptised 16 Apr 1826.  Is there anyway to verify this event and his parents???  Perhaps he was illegitimate?

The parish record for Messing shows him baptised on 16.04.1826, his mother is named as Sarah Burrells. There is no mention of a father.
Clearly Burrells can become Burls.
Sarah Burrells married Thomas Cowling at Messiing on 23.05.1838 (though it does appear in the middle of 1837 marriages), both are shown as having been widowed.
