Remember the first rule of research  "Never assume anything"

The first number to be issued would be AX 1, and that would have been issued in January 1904.
I think it's a reasonable bet to say that AX 24 was issued before the end of the year?

Or are you saying that there were less than 24 vehicles in Monmouthshire by the end of 1904?!

It was common practice to  hold back the number 1   because they were often used by the official  vehicles of the county or County Borough.
For example EM 1

My interest is of the first owner. I have a fair idea of a name but don't want to prejudice any investigation.
By the way. Does anyone recognise the car? T.

I think the registration number is probably AX244. T

  You could try the Monmouthshire County Council Archives and Museums,  either on-line or visit them in person.

I like that Sandra, the bonnet shape matches, the radiator matches, the area round the front springs matches and the long running board on which the child and lady are standing is also there.

This one looks to have been converted to electric headlamps, which may date the photo a bit later,but maybe the one in the discovery museum has been heavily restored to look good.

Any records will only show the first registered owner, if the car changed hands after two or three years only the logbook will show the change
