Grandfather's burial place

I'm trying to find the burial place of my late grandfather, Robert Gordon Dawson of Glasgow, who passed on the 22nd of October 1963 in the the district of Partick in the Burch of Glasgow. I have tried the Mitchell library, scotsland people and also ancestry.com but no-one seems to be able to help me. I have many sites to help but I am at my wits end as we are travelling from Australia to Scotland in a week. My late mother never went back to Scotland as this is the reason I am doing this. He was born in 1890. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated. Thanks  :)

Have you tried contacting the bereavement services in Glasgow? If you have the address or at least area where he died, and a date  they may have a record of where he was buried or cremated.

Just checked then and I have already contacted them and they were the one's that told me to contact the Mitchell library.... I just can't believe how hard it is to find someone's resting place. I have a copy of his death certificate, but it doesn't say if he was buried or cremated. I just don't know what else to do????  :'( I really want to do this for my late mum.

Have you tried contacting funeral directors in Partick to see if any of them arranged the funeral?  Link below to a list.

There may be others but you could start with these.  You know his date of death so that should help.

The other possibility would be to have search done at whichever library holds old newspapers and ask for a search for a death notice which may mention where the funeral was held.  Link for that below

Don't know if they have them, if not they should tell you where these are kept.

Do you know were his wife is buried? If not it might be worth looking for her burial place and seeing if they are together.


Did the local library check the hews paper?

Was your grandfather from Glasgow? Could he have gone back to a previous area?

thankyou all for the reply's. I dont know where his wife was buried, and it is down as his home address as his place of death on his certificate and I have already tried the Western Necropolis thread before. I am still waiting for a reply from the Glasgow Family History as from what I can see you can only send them an email with the info and then they get back to you
