Could anyone identify the uniform please
« on: Monday 14 November 16 09:59 GMT (UK) »
Hello fellow rootschatters,

My friend recently found this photo among her deceased mother's belongings and is now trying to figure out the relationship of the man in the front left identified as Allen Brong to her family.  She is hopeful that identification of the uniform might give some clues.

It appears that the man in the front right side has US on the collar of his uniform so it's likely Allen Brong was in the US forces.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Susan

Looks like crossed guns with 22 between. So 22nd Regiment of Artillery? Sorry no knowledge of US Army.

The stripe on the trousers also helps identification

I will consult one of my books when I return home

The young man with the dog has a different shade of jacket  so he could have a different role in the unit, or be from a different regiment.

He could be a forward observer?

Also pockets on his chest

A bit of a guess from me too.
My first thought was Officer Cadets but they don't look smart enough.
I notice there's a lack of insignia & their tunics don't have pockets with just 1 man in a regular uniform.
So I would suggest a Training Establishment for new recruits post WW1.

I wonder if the dog was "on the strength". Of the unit.    Or just a pet?

Serious question

I will have to check this, but I have a recollection that they were based at Fort Dix

I Googled US army uniforms. I found a Q & A Blog where the same uniform came up. The enquirers G father was born 1889 and he guessed his G Father was 20, so c1909. The informer replied U.S. Coastal Artillery. In that case 33rd Regiment. Soon, the regiments were reformed into the Corps of Coastal Artillery and the regimental numbers dispensed with.

Today the U s Army has an NCO academy.   I wonder if this was at the old NCO academy?
