With deep sadness,

On the 1884 regular army form John Mitchell says he has a mother Elizabeth and a younger brother Samuel.

Sorry to be a pain, Max, but I still cannot find the reference you mention above. I can only find the two attestation records for 1882 and 1883, and there is no mention of John's mother or brother. I have printed the 1882 and 1883 records but cannot see anything about his family. I have also tried searching on FindMyPast for anything military for John Mitchell from Somerset, but these are the only two records that come up. I clearly still have a lot to learn ::)

Your guidance would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards
Cherryl

Had you seen the report of his death in the Pontypridd Chronicle & Workman's News, 6 Nov 1891?

See the column headed "RHONDDA VALLEY NOTES"

Thanks, Hanes. I have seen that. I think you posted it to me on another thread a couple of weeks ago :)

It is so interesting finding all these links and bringing them together.

Did I send you the single paragraph item (in translation) from the Welsh language newspaper Baner ac Amser Cymru, 11 Nov 1891? which described him "falling down dead on the spot"?
