Slains Castle Cruden Bay 1930
« on: Monday 14 November 16 17:27 GMT (UK) »
I found a person living here in 1930 valuation rolls. She was  Cissie Gregory the widow of the Cruden Bay coast guard who died  4 December 1929 at Cruden Bay .

In 1930 , she is at The Garden, Slains Castle, Cruden Bay.

Are there any photos of this place, all I seem to have found are ruins. Also there seems to have been 2 Slain Castles which doesn`t help.
In fact - any info will help.

Moderator - suggest moving this to Aberdeenshire.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

There were indeed two Slains Castles.

Old Slains is some way south of Cruden Bay, closer to Collieston. See

The other one is a short distance north of Cruden Bay, and is in rather better condition though still ruined

https://canmore.org.uk/site/21149/slains-castle which also has lots of photographs of it before it became a ruin.

You can see that the old castle was demolished in 1594, so it seems likely that this reference in the 1930s was to the new castle.
