There are records of a William and Dorothy living in the same street in Hove but William has a different Wife. Did he marry again? - E.G. William Laing and Rose Pearson in 1912?

The William Laing in the same street as Dorothy in Hove is the same age as her father but not the same person.

He married Rosa Emma Millard in Lambeth in 1906 and is probably the person on the death index in 1948.

Rosa died there in 1965.

May I remind people that only 1939 information found from free searches may be posted here which are names and years of birth. Careful manipulation of the data can reveal other household members but not the relationships.

And we have covered some of this before

If William & Dorothy moved back to Scotland, then they won't be in the 1939 National Register?
I don't think the Scotland 1939 has been released yet?

Whilst the 1939 register as it stands at the moment contains 41 million names of which just under 33 million are available, it is a one date snap shot, 29th September.

This register was primarily used to issue identity cards on the outbreak of war in 1939.

It did not include those who had already signed up, those who lived outside of England & Wales and potentially those away on holiday as it was taken during September.
Anyone who was born after that date, or who arrived in the country after that date was listed in a separate register which is not publically available.

If they weren't registered to start with, they certainly would be by January 1940 when rationing started.

If the date on the death entry is consistent with the date on her birth cert and baptism entry, then you can do a 1939 search just on that information and look throught the 2272 results to see if she is potentially mis-transcribed.

I'm having trouble locating the school entry you mention, which dataset are you referring to and what address is actually given on the register

I accidently keyed May (05) instead of Mar (03) into the free 1939 index and turned up a Dorothy ? La?Ng b. 1900 and living in Hove. You would need to look at the original image to see what the ?s represent. I'm not sure if the index would show all members of the household but this Dorothy shows as the only one in the household if it does. The index does not give an address.
