I really thanks you for the information but I don't think we are looking at the same John Gaskin who was still fighting in 1917 and only discharged in 1918. His sister Margaret was not born until c1905. This  is the problem I came up against there are so many Gaskin's in the area at that time and both John and Margaret were the most common names.

Have you paid attention to the fact that his marriage was recorded on his baptism in 1894

I started totally in the dark. The marriage cert seem to be correct as the subsequent births registered to them seem to be the names of my aunts/uncles. The info I placed concerning Michael is what I gleaned from my online search and does not come from family history although the names seem to tie up so I assume it was Michael. I sorry the note did not register and I'll have another look. I really appreciate your help on this.

I've gone back over everything I have and and think your line is much stronger than the one I took. The only doubt I have is that in John's 1916 army notes he was said to be aged 20 which would make his Dob to be 1896/7 which is where I took up the line that my John was following.

under military and conflict i found the following

John Gascoyne obviously meant to be John Gaskin ,74 Brookfield Blds
arrest 1916 and internment in Stafford
