Thanks thats great.

Which census is that from?

Who else is in the household?

I have her deceased in 1925 at age 74 yearsso that could very well be her. Any idea why she would be registered in Braintree rather than Maldon?

sorry wasnt very clear was I the 2nd post is the Mary that I think was from the previous post which was the 1871 census.
if you want to send me a private message with your email I can send you the image.
As to differing registrations I have found this happens sometimes.
Mind you if the one on the 1881 census isnt right then my find might not be correct!!!! ::) ::)
I thought when I found my 1st Digby oh that cant be a common name wasnt I wrong ???
will have another check later and will keep your names along mine whist I am searching   sandie

Hi

This is my first message.

I'm looking for info re my grandfather Albert Digby, born 20th January 1876 in Finchingfield, registered in Braintree.  He was a boot repairer journeyman.  I don't know how many brothers or sisters he had, so looked at Free BMD for Digbys registered in Braintree 1850 to 1899 and found 89 names! Some families had only one first name, others two.  I have Albert's birth certificate and his father was Charles Digby, a farm labourer, married to Emma Halls.

Can anybody help, please?

Many thanks

David John

Hi David,  ;D
Here are some Charles Digby from the Braintree area in 1861:
DIGBY   CHARLES   35      1115   6   BRT
DIGBY   CHARLES   28      1113   15   FCF
DIGBY   CHARLES   17      1113   11   FCF
DIGBY   CHARLES   13      1115   98   BRT
DIGBY   CHARLES J 9      1114   141   PTK
Plenty of Digby's there! I won't list them all.
FCF stands for Finchingfield so I guess he is one of these two?
DIGBY   WILLIAM   50      1113   11   FCF
DIGBY   REBECCA   40      1113   11   FCF
DIGBY   ELIZA   20      1113   11   FCF
DIGBY   THOMAS   13      1113   11   FCF
DIGBY   ELIZABETH S 14      1113   11   FCF
DIGBY   SARAH     6      1113   11   FCF
DIGBY   GEORGE A  2      1113   11   FCF

DIGBY   SAMUEL   60      1113   15   FCF
DIGBY   MARY   58      1113   15   FCF
DIGBY   JOSEPH   29      1113   15   FCF
DIGBY   JANE   29      1113   15   FCF
DIGBY   SARAH   25      1113   15   FCF
DIGBY   GEORGE   4      1113   15   FCF
You could get someone to look either of the two refs up then you may be able to work out which might be correct by the profession? So refs are RG9/1113/15 or 11

Here is also an Emma:
HALLS   EMMA   15      1113   6   FCF

HALLS   JOHN   49      1113   6   FCF
HALLS   ANN   48      1113   6   FCF
HALLS   CHARLOTTE 18      1113   6   FCF
HALLS   GEORGE   12      1113   6   FCF
HALLS   DANIEL   9      1113   6   FCF
Again planty of other Halls in Braintree 1861! RG9/1113/6
My money is on the Charles who is 17 as Emma is 15!

Good luck and enjoy rootschat!  :D
Geoff.
