Could be the Ann Townsend in the will, the aunt.

Yes I agree, but not sure yet how she's related to Thomas. Gives me someone else to look for though around the Dagenham barking Romford area ... the plot thickens!

Two big gaps in the Dagenham prs are not helping ... how inconsiderate of people back then not to have preserved their records better!!

Based on the missing registers 1703-1723 my point was to find out how Jane Housden, Elizabeth Smith and Elizabeth Seabrooke are cousins, plus how Ann Townsend is her aunt.
As there are no wills or probates for Housden, Seabrook and Smith and Townsend from 1755 to 1820 the land they farmed and worked had to be handed down somehow.
Note Ephraim and Samuel Seabrook are listed as farmers of Dagenham in 1820.
Property disputes and how an estate is divided amongst heirs will list how and when they received it many years prior. Who died without heirs and who inherited their portion.
Many wills/probates have the wording to his/her heirs and the heirs of children born in the marriages.
I'm not referring to the Ephraim and Samuel of 1820 when we finally have a legal document concerning property division, but to their grandparents the generation you are looking for.

I could not find any Chapman's in Dagenham prior to 1703 so David was most likely born elsewhere.

Yes, I see. Although the ephraim and Samuel would probably be the grandchildren of my ephraim and Samuel (both born around 1700) if the will is 1820? Or do you mean you think it would refer back to their grandparents?

It's not a will, from what I can see via the index its a property division. I was thinking it would give clues to relationships both recent i.e. 1820 and further back, as to who originally owned the property who it was purchased from etc.
Seabrook is not your main item of research right now, so file it away as something to follow up on if you don't have any success with Housden and Chapman directly.

There is mention of a Samuel Seabrook, uncle, there is a marriage in Dagenham in 1723 to an Ann Cullingham, which might be him.

I was interested to read the above. My 5GGparents are Samuel Seabrook b.abt. 1700 and Ann b.abt. 1703. Their first child was born 1724 which certainly matches your marriage info. I have not been able find a marriage for Samuel. I am also interested in the will that was mentioned.

Thanks
Lyn
