St John Lee
« on: Thursday 22 December 16 17:05 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had the transcript of the parish of St John Lee in Northumberland?

My great (x5) gradfather was Ralph Herron/Heron. Always had him down as being born circa 1800. 1861 census gives his birthplace as St John Lee.

There is a baptism there 27th July 1800, and it says the father's name was George.

I wondered if there were any other clues, such as a mother?

I see a Joseph Heron baptised there 4th March 1804, father George.

I can't find anything about George...  :-\

Thanks!
Russell

I wonder if the following is relevant since Corbridge is apparently in the parish of St John Lee (I'm a Southerner so my geography of that area is poor!)

Marriage date   26 Feb 1797
Place   Corbridge
Groom's first name(s)   George
Groom's last name   Heron
Groom's parish   Otp
Bride's first name(s)   Martha
Bride's last name   Brown

Sorry but this is incorrect - they were, and still are, separate parishes  :D

Ah yes you are right, I misread it! Still, only about four and a half miles from each other, could still be relevant I guess!

Abode for Ralph given as Bueckley(as transcribed) and Joseph as Wall.

The catalogue on Familysearch says that, for some reason, the Bishop's Transcripts for St John Lee for this period are held by the Borthwick Institute. They do not appear to have been digitised.

This baptism took place during the Bishopric of Shute Barrington, and clergy were supposed to record the maiden surname of the mother and the native parishes of both parents.

I guess they didn't?
