The Settlement Certificate was issued by the parish of Cambridge St Botolph, so they only moved across town.

I thought that this was the marriage that you were trying to link to  :-\

I can find on FreeReg an Edward marrying Susanna Anderson (Widow) on16 June 1715 in Cambridge. Problem is if this is the right connection, why then only having first child in 1725.
Can anyone throw some light on my seemingly impossible puzzle?
Hi, I have looked at that and agree with you on the timing. Your info and that from others has incentivised me to put all together and dig deeper into research. Thanks.

For Jomot - What was the purpose of a settlement certificate?

This link gives an overview: http://www.rootschat.com/links/01j66/
Thanks I travel to Ipswich from time to time so will look a diversion off the A13 to see about at getting a copy.

I keep looking at the 1684 dob, but the first child (the key one for my research), Susanna was only born 1725, which would make Edward 41 years old. That's why I wonder if he was a widower. Pity that I cannot trace his wife Susanna's maiden name.

Is there a reason you have discounted the 1717 baptism & burial of Edward provided by Rosie?  I've looked at the images of the 1723 burials and these were of children, so could well have been the children of Edward and Susanna as has been suggested.

The familysearch film is the bishops transcript only and has gaps.  For the timescale the children would likely be born/christened the available years are:
1712-1714
1717-1718
1721-1747

I would suggest obtaining the settlement certificate to see if it names Edwards children at that date, which you could then compare to the burials.
You info and from others has given me a lot to reconsider and check into further. Thanks
