Day out for the poor children 1920s 30s
« on: Saturday 31 December 16 23:22 GMT (UK) »
I am writing my family history into a story.

My dad would get an invite by the Lord Major to a day out,
think it was at Small Brook Park, Aston? Birmingham?  got on a bus to get there,  got a bag with a cake, bun, drink and a present , played games, clowns were there..

He also got invites from the police, who would give them clogs to wear ??

Can any one ad to this, or correct it  ..as my dad is not with us any more,  so I can't ask him.

many thanks

Does this help

Seem the Lord Mayor then was a member of the Cadburys chocolate family.

My mom remembers the Police Christmas Fund.
She also remembers Percy Shurmer who your dad would have known about because he did a lot for poor kids in Brum.
The park may be Farm Park built in the grounds of Sampson LLoyd's mansion. He being the founder of the bank of that name.
I do have it on a map but I can't put it on here.

Thats a great bit of information thanks Jim.. wonderful,  hopefully I get enough to do a story on it.

I am doing a creative writing course,  I am learning that I need more detail in my stories.

many thanks

cheers
