Hi All, Happy New Year to you all
I am looking for the Service Number of the above chap.  He served as Lieut and then Captain in the Royal Kent Cyclist in WW1.  I can make out his Service Number and wondered if anyone can help me please.
Thanks in advance

Commissioned officers didn't have personal numbers until after the Great War.

His personal record is in the National Archives at:

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C696163.  It has not been digitised.  If your query was as a starter to get his record, send me a PM.

His medal card is on Ancestry - both this and his record, as Crisane says, without a personal number.

In addition, the London Gazette has his promotions to Lieutenant and then Capt in 1918 https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30609/supplement/4092 (plus another one or two listings)

Max, I looked at that as well, then clicked on the previous one. Is that the same man, if so I think it may have more details?

Hi Groom

I did the same!  The commission of this Thomas Fuller 11 Feb 17 is in the LG https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/29983/supplement/2601 from London Regiment to Royal West Kents as 2 Lt and his SWB in 1918 appears on the SWB list OK.  In addition, there is an officers record in the NA for 2 Lt Thomas Fuller RWK  http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C1145213

Further, the Cysclist was still serving in 1920 LG https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30609/supplement/4092

All in all, my thought is that the London Regt/RWK man is another chap and that his card is a monumental c*** up by the clerks who have put bits of the Kent Cyclist man's record on the same card and then taken a red pen to some of it.  Equally, some of the entries on the Cyclist's card look as if they belong to the other one!  Clincher perhaps is that both cards have an address on the lower part and they are different.

Intrigued by the "IGS Afgn (presumably Afghanistan) 1919, (Indian Government Service???) again presumably the Cyclist.

As always, it would be the record that gives the true answer but I offer the thoughts for your delectation and delight.

Further to the above.  The medal roll entry for the "wrong" man is much more straightforward.  28th London commissioned into 6th Royal West Kents 10 Feb 1917 with the roll references cross checking to the card.
