Hi all,
I am wondering if anyone from the Glasgow area would perhaps remember any of my HENDRY and WYLIE relatives. I have been piecing together a family tree over the past few years and have managed to get in contact with a number of relatives, but I am very much interested in the social history as well as the personal.
These families lived primarily in Springburn and Cathcart, and perhaps the most well-known member would be Dr. James Brown HENDRY (1893 - 1966), who was physician and homeopath. He and his wife Sarah Minnie REA (1893 - 1985) ran a hotel in Glasgow... the King's or Queen's Hotel, I believe. I am not 100% of the name, but perhaps people familiar with the area will know. They had a son named Raymond - also a doctor - and the family were long-standing Plymouth Brethren.
James appears as the signatory on several of his relatives' death certificates, including his nephews Andrew WYLIE (1906 - 1945) and Samuel WYLIE (1908 - 1942).
I am wondering if any older users from the Glasgow area may remember James or any of his family, as I believe one or two of them were quite prominent figures. If you have any vague recollection of people by the name of Hendry or Wylie who were Plymouth Brethren then are very likely to be from these families. The older generations were Irish but moved to Glasgow in about 1900, as was fairly common at the time.
Thanks.
