Thank you soooooo much for helping  :)  My health is not good t the moment and I am self employed with a 3 year old and work all hours including evenings and weekends so I am afraid I do not have the time to spend on this that I would love to have.

i will follow this up as soon as I can.
No idea how to look into Rhodesia though!

Just to say I had a look on UK, Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960 I didn't find anything for him returning perhaps if he did return it was after 1960

I have no idea if this will be of any help Family Search has 2 Zimbabwean resources
available online for the years 1892 to 1977.
The first is an indexed collection of Death Notices and the second is for Death certificates arranged by town.

click on the link below and scroll down to
Genealogical Resources
family search
- it might be an idea to click on the link 'tutorial' this gives help on how to search for death records.

I can satisfy your curiosity about GHT Walpole. He lodged with the Sharpes from 1935 when he left the Army, until he married my mother in June 1937. He may have been a family friend, as his parents and at least 4 siblings lived just round the corner at 18 Charlmont Road. This was only a ground floor flat, so room was very restricted, he would have preferred a room to himself.

Oh wow!

Do you know anything more about them? Any photographs?

I'd be interested to know anything you remember  :D

I have sent you a message :-)

I've managed to read your message. I'm finding it hard to work out how this site works, and I don't really want to get too involved. I'm 80 years old, live in Australia, and my internet access is limited. I haven't found anything in my father's memories referring to Sharpe, he was over 80 when he jotted them down. But I can send them to you if you email me directly at (*)
I also have one or two photos, one of my dad in army uniform, and one of his parents.
I remember the area around Sellincourt and Charlmont Roads very clearly, we lived near Amen Corner from 1938, and I used to walk to Grandma Walpole's from there quite frequently. But I didn't know many people there, as I went to school in the opposite direction.
