Hi Scotmum

Thanks for the link to the article. It was very interesting reading. Not going to progress this family from cemetery records so will have to try a other avenue.

Hi folks,

Was going to post that link from scotmum but no need now  :)

Can't say I agree with their drastic measures in terms of respect for families of the deceased & must have been an unnecessary cost too.

So looks like your ancestor is now in Knocknairshill Cemetery?

Who would have thought someone being 'laid to rest' would have been exhumed & transported elsewhere  :o

I would assume that the records will have been updated after the uproot of your ancestor to this cemetery i.e. I would suggest it's still a lead to follow?

Kia Ora Canawa  here is an additional link which you may find interesting http://www.portglasgow4u.co.uk/Towns_History/Newark_Parish_Church.html . Take particular note of the newspaper article and photo.   The Newark Parish Church has been converted into some very upmarket apartments comparatively recently. I saw them when I last visited in 2014 though I didn't notice any headstones in the nearby landscaping.

My own relatives are buried at Port-Glasgow Cemetery, Heggies Ave Port-Glasgow and though that cemetery is now closed its details and records are held by Inverclyde Council. They have a special Burial Ground Services  site and if you scroll down to the bottom of the page there is an email address. I have spoken to this service by phone when I visited the area and they were very helpful. I think  your relatives were most likely to have been re interred at Port- Glasgow in the early 1900's  and Inverclyde may have these records. Another potential source of information is Watt library in Greenock. They have a website and you could try contacting them . Best regards Orkrad
