Are the photographs of the same person Joseph Knight?

Indeed I do Sarah. The person who sent me the group shot is the owner and the granddaughter of the "bride" in whatever production it was and is every bit as interested as I am in identifying the others. The portrait of Joseph Knight is also fine - he is all over the Middlesbrough Family History page on Facebook and again, his granddaughter is fully involved with this enquiry.

I have put them side by side for you to help a bit - to me they do look quite similar but difficult to be certain.  There seems to be something with his left eye that stands out on both.

Thank you Mike. I feel fairly sure that they are the same person and it does make sense that it should be Joseph Knight as his niece is at the centre of the shot and others have quite a strong family resemblance. In fact, Joseph's granddaughter has said that the woman seated behind the bride, with the black felt hat, looks just like her own nana, Joseph's daughter - who it can't possibly be as she was only a child when this photograph was taken - but it could be one of his many sisters.

I also think that the person on the left hand side of the back row looks more like a man than a dressed up woman. Again, there is a cross against this person so I'm guessing he/she fits into the family somehow. It is so frustrating that we will probably never know.

The chin cleft could be part of the theatrical makeup, couldn't it? I'm not sure when the seated photograph was taken, I'll see if I can find out.

Could also have been generated by an insufficiency of teeth. No NHS gnashers then, tha knows!
