Thank you Sinaan, that's a cool map.

I am pretty certain the people I am looking for were non Catholic, using the link provided by 'aghadowey' earlier, I have established that the birth I wanted to find is not within the church records available.

Plus, as it was about 1850 I don't think it is covered in the Civil records.  Am I correct in that?

Correct no civil births before 1864.
If they are COI you can look here https://www.ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/registers/ParishRegistersTable.pdf
To see if any records survive and where they are, many were lost in 1922.
