Ancestors of Marc Isambard Brunel
« on: Wednesday 18 January 17 17:01 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find information about the parents and earlier ancestors of Marc Isambard Brunel. His parents, Jean Charles Brunel and Marie Victoire (nee Lefebvre) were well-off farmers from Hacqueville, Normandy in the 1760/70s when Marc was born.  I am particularly interested in his mother, Marie Victoire Lefebvre and if anyone knows of a French family history resource, accessible in/from UK, I would be pleased to hear.

Hi Pathar,

the best source for research in France is Geneanet, try a search there:

His parents might be cousins:

The parish records for the Eure department are on line at

archives.cg27.fr/etat-civil-search-form.html

so you can check out what you find on Généanet which is only as reliable as other online tree sites.

etat-civil = civil registers are starting by the end of 18th century (after French revolution).

so you have to check the church registers ...

Yes, you are right but this was the only option offered for access to both civil registration and parish registers on this particular archive's home page.  I checked access to both the Ecouis and Hacqueville parish registers via this route before posting the link. :)
