Beginning to sound to me as if that may have been bigamy.

One page he declares he is Charles Pearson and not George Button, with a birth cert to prove the case, this was Dec 1914.

What a curious puzzle.

As Groom mentioned, do you have him 1911?

His signature in 1880 and 1914 are they similar?

His height was 6ft, eyes Grey, no visible marks to distinguish. Religion COE

No I have not found any of them in the 1911 census. I have found the first marriage in India and will post picture when PC has finished installing updates. He says occupation is engine drive in arm. But in 1914 when he reinlisted he is a Company Sargent Major and stated his occupation as a commissioner so it might be two different people. If so what happened to my George Button and why was Charles Pearson using an alias?
I had another situation similar to this when I was researching a friend's tree. Her person came home and changed his surname to his mother's maiden name in the middle of WW2 and then went back overseas to fight.

Yes but the fellow that enlisted as G Button in 1914, says 3mth later he is C Pearson, so either not your G Button at all or a mystery waiting to unfold.

If it was just the case of using a different name to re-inlist, I would say he may have done it as perhaps they turned him down because he was too old or similar, but he was using the name before that wasn't he?

This is my George Button as the father's name is correct. I have not been able to trace either George or his wife after this date with any certainty.

I would say if there were difficulties with age enlisting, why not have a younger mans name, not same age. Also C Pearson as he ended, has not been shown outside the 1914 enlistment of G Button, other than Marriage. Have not looked TBH.

It is possible that confusion has come from him calling himself G Button, possibly, he is and never was Pandas George? Possibly there is a story involving Pandas George, some things may never get answered unless lucky.
