I think I have found the other George Button in the 1911 census. He got married shortly after the census was taken
He is in the Strand St Paul's Covent Garden listed as single working as a Clerk Messenger which ties in for his job discription on the 1914 sign up papers. He is a lodger listed on his own it what looks like a boarding type house.

This gets more confusing , doesn't it ? I had another look through the records and within George Button/ Pearson's record is a document which says :

The man referred to No 2378 George Button , late Regt Royal West Kent , has been attested for Royal West Kent Regiment , retaining his original rank ... document is stamped War Office 6 Oct 1914.

There is another service record for a George Button b 1866 Tenterden , a baker , who served with the RWK until 28.08.09 , regimental number 2378. This birthplace fits with the 1911 census you found . There is no mention of Pearson on this set of papers but it does seem to be the same man.

I think I'm going to send for the marriage certificate for Edith Ball to Charles Pearson just to see who the father is listed as.

Sounds like a good move. I think she married again to Jack Crowther in 1924. You can find them on the 1939 with Constance.
