Listing out some possibly relevant baptisms:

20.07.1818, St Mary Newington: Mary Ann Day, d/o George (porkman) & Ann, of Lion St, Kent Rd
07.04.1822, St Mary Newington: Thomas Day, s/o George (postman) & Ann, of New St, Kent Rd.
04.07.1824, St Mary Newington: Louisa Day, d/o George (letter carrier) & Ann, of New St, Kent Rd.
21.01.1827, St Mary Newington: James Larwill Day, s/o George (letter carrier) & Ann, of New St, Kent Rd.

"Porkman", although clear on the face of it, therefore looks likely to be an error for "postman".  Perhaps the minister had made rather scruffy notes and was thereby misdirected when it came to writing up the register.

Thanks a lot again - will take me a few hours to look into all that but much appreciated. I have an Elizabeth Amelia Day .. perhaps that is it, but if not at least should have enough now to nail it down!

A possibility for Elizabeth (though she's not very consistent on birthplace, she does mention the City at one point!):

All Hallows the Great, City of London

Elizabeth Ann, the daughter of George Day and Ann his wife, was born the 23rd of October [1809] and baptized the 12th of November [1809] by [   ].

In the presence of:

George Day of New St, Kent Rd left a (simple) will by letter dated 12 May 1832 which did not name any executors but left everything to his wife Ann, including his business as a news vendor.

Administration of the estate (with will attached) was granted to his widow Ann on 5 June 1832.

Yes, they may have married 25 Dec 1835 at St Leonard's, Shoreditch (both previously widowed).

His occupation of hawker is interesting - a traditional traveller occupation, as was brushmaking.  I wonder whether George Day, if we have the right one, was a postman/letter carrier/news vendor as his "official" occupation, and a brushmaker as his traditional one?  I am very possibly clutching at straws, but other than the brushmaking this family looks so promising!

Yes, just found the 1835 Marriage also.

I agree that it looks promising as the right Family.

Changes of Occp are not unusual though I have found depending on how many mouths there are to feed!

Off to bed,
Trish :)

Changes of occupation aren't unusual, certainly, but if George was a postman/letter carrier when his children were born, and a news vendor by the time of his death in 1832, it is puzzling that two of his daughters remembered him as a brushmaker when they married in the 1840s. ???
