Cordwainers were specialist leather shoemakers.

Traditionally, cordwainers made new shoes & boots, from new leather.
Cobblers fixed old shoes/boots.

P.S.  I come from a town in North Somerset. But I invariably tell people I am from Bristol, as it's easier to explain! ;D

Looking at the GRO website

Arthur WILSON was registered M Qtr 1845 Shrewsbury - no mother's maiden name given.

? Do you have a copy of this birth

---

Among the trees on Ancestry there is this....

Henrietta Mary Ann BATE baptised October 1821 ( Ancestry ) - parents: Richard BATE and Ann BANNISTER  nee Guess - according to tree

Who are on the 1851, Liverpool, Lancashire

and on the 1851 aged 58

Shrewsbury St Mary, Shropshire

+ this comment

Henrietta Mary Ann BATE baptised 1821 this fits name and date BUT on her marriage certificate to John WILSON - her father's name is noted as Henry (occupation  Draper) not Richard's occupation Publican - but does this the children of your family.

Yes I have those details of Arthur's birth in Shrewsbury but am now looking for more info on his father Arthur, the "Bristol" one.

My understanding is that Henrietta Mary Ann Bate (S) is from Covent Garden & possibly the daughter of Richard & Ann. Not clear if she married Arthur ( the Bristol one) but she appeared to have children with him. After Arthur's death in Sunderland, 1860, she is in the 1861 census as being John's wife?! Maybe needed to be wed for financial reasons.

All rather confusing as both Arthur Wilson ( bristol) and Henrietta Mary Ann seemed to move around the Uk so records are lacking.
Thanks anyway.
