On the Lancs OPC site I've been looking at on Baptisms at St Elphins in Warrington, the occupation of the father Thomas Gee in and around 1777 keeps coming up with  WEAR - What kind of occupation was this?  Thanks for any assistance.

It does seem quite specific doesn't it ie always written that way  :-\

I wondered if it was for "weaver" but other examples of that are either written in full or have a "v" in the abbreviation.
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

I thought of weaver - perhaps it was the Vicars way of abbrevating to WEAR!!!
