Thanks Ainslie, I didn't do very well with spelling, Boar instead of Boer and Dragon instead of Dragoon. Both correct spellings on my notes, all I can put it down to is composing the post late at night when I was tired.
Cheers, Paul

I usually blame dyslexic fingers! ;D

I only mentioned the Boer spelling, because I have come across so many people who believe it's spelled like a pig!! :-\

I suffer as well, and managed to avoid posting a bad joke involving fire-eating Dragoons.

I suppose it is going too far to observe that there should be no brackets around the word King's in the regiment's title - thought so  ;) ;)

I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Aaaah, come on guys, give me a break!!!! Actually the printout I have from 'findmypast' has brackets around (King's). Yes it does say Dragoon and yes it does say Boer War, but it does have brackets around (King's).
While I have your attention, why can't I put a smiley on my comments as you all do. Whenever I press one of the smileys it comes up with  ::) or  ??? ;D.  I have checked attachments and other options and the 'don't use smileys' is not ticked.
Paul
Forget that last question, when I pressed send they come up, strange, but now I know.

When you are writing, or editing, a post the smilies come up in text.

You can see what they will look like if you click on Preview.

Just one of those idiosyncrasies you get used to! ;D
