Hoping someone can point me in the right direction have been hitting my head against a brick wall on this one.

Born Barend Arnoldus De Bie in the Netherlands 1915

Bernard Joseph Murphy he was given this name when after his father died his mother bought him and his brother to live  in Newcastle upon Tyne and married a man surname Murphy.

Have been trying to find army records for him as to what regiment he was in as soon as I can find that I can then get his records.

I know he was married  using the  the name B.J. Murphy and living in London when he enlisted WW2,

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you are next of kin you won't be able to get WW2 records for this man.  I had to produce copies of my birth cert, my father's death cert, my mother's death cert and their marriage cert, before I could get my dad's WW2 records.

Thank you for this info.
I know I had to go to court to get my fathers medals didn't realise I would need proof just to get what regiment he was in.

Have you looked for him in the 1939 Register?  A precise birthdate would help you confirm you have the right man, if he's not with his wife.  If he was already in the Army then he may or may not be traceable, but there's a possibility that the description of his occupation would help you identify regiment etc.

From this old thread...

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=492670.9

...I see that Bernard's marriage was to Daisy Lugard (Pancras, Jun qtr 1939).  Have you got his occupation at the time of that marriage, which would appear on the marriage certificate?

You also said on that thread that Bernard was aka Brian?

Thank you all for the info he got married before WW2 started.

I have tried all the names he was known by I just want what regiment he was in its like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I sent the only 2 photos of him in uniform I have and they couldn't tell which regiment he was with as not very clear.

From an arm badge they said it looks like 21st army group which was a group of men taken from different regiments put together to go in before D Day to report back where the germans and their guns were.

It was disbanded afterwards so not informative.

                    many thanks

You said you wanted his WW2 records. I didn't know my father's regiment, in fact I thought he was in the Royal Artillery but when I got his records he'd been transferred at some stage to the RASC.  I'm sure his name and dob would be sufficient if you didn't know his regiment.

I applied in all his know names and they told me they needed his regiment.
This is why I am confused but will try again in all known names and see what happens.
