dating request. could be Benjamin Whitehead, London
« on: Tuesday 07 February 17 20:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,
Could anyone help with this one. My dad found it in my grandfathers house after he died. He always thought the boy in the dress was his father (my grandfather Benjamin Whitehead b.1905) but now we'll not sure as the parents don't look like his grandparents in later photos.
Any suggestions on dates would be really helpful and much appreciated.
Thank you very much
Vicky

Certainly Edwardian but can't get it to a particular time as there's nothing that stands out.
The children look close together in ages, the older one looks about 2 & the younger one a few months.
Did they have children close together ?
Can we see one of the photos you refer to ?
You have to bear in mind that photos were sent to friends so may not be related.

thank you for your reply Jim.
You could be right, they may be completely unrelated but I thought I would try and see if they are connected. The man does look like others in the family so I feel he could be related.
I have attached a later photo of the couple - Benjamin Victor Whitehead and Gertrude. (They are the couple on the right) and their son Benjamin Robert (Top far right). I'm guessing this picture is post 1937 as Benjamin was married then and his wife is in it too.
Benjamin Robert, born 1905, did have a brother who was five years younger, born in 1910. So there could be about 30 years between the photos.
Do you think its the same couple?
Thank you again for your help

Here is another one of them. Not sure what year but guessing by the age of Benjamin Robert (the eldest son) I would say 1920 but not sure definitely on that.

There's not a 5 year age difference between the 2 children in pic. 1.
Could there have been another that possibly died ?
I would say pics. 1 & 3 are the same couple, not sure about pic. 2 She looks similar but he looks completely different.
We don't often see full colour photos from the 20's.

As you say there are 2 children in 1905 & 1910 so unless one or both belong to someone else I can't see it being Ben & Gert.
Maybe a sibling perhaps ?

In picture number 2...there are four men and five women, so Ben could be taking the photo....as the lady looks the same in both pictures two and three...I'm not convinced that the first photo is the same couple.

Thank you all for your replies. I am not convinced it is the same couple either and you're right the children don't look 5 years apart. as far as I know they didn't have any other children. My dad says the man looks just like his cousin (who was born a lot later) so I feel he could be related.
I will have to look at the family tree again and see if it could be anyone else related to him.

I shared this photo last week -does anyone think it could be Ben and Gertrude's wedding? They got married in 1902 so dates would fit but his parents don't look anything like the ones in that wedding picture.

I have shared a picture of his parents - also called Benjamin - Benjamin Thomas Whitehead (born 1855) and his wife Emma
Thank you again

I think pic. 2 in this is the same couple as the other photo on the other thread.
What we need to do is put snapshots of them all together with dates.
Will have a go at it tomorrow.
