Does anyone know what a 'stamper' was?

It is shown on an 1851 census from Aston Warwickshire

Thanks
Ewan

Hi Jane

Thanks for your interest and reply,

I was hoping to see if a 'stamper' belonged to
a specific industry.

Can anybody else  shed light on a 'stamper'

Thanks
Ewan

Ewan

A stampman is a worker of an ore crushing machine but whether the 2 are connected I cannot say. I have several links to old occupations sites but these are the only 2 starting with stamp.....

Hello Jane

I was just hoping perhaps it may have been connected
to the jewellery trade, but it seems not.

Thanks
Ewan

Hi Ewan

You could of course be a stamper in the Post Office. See the link I found.

A stamper may be connected to the jewelry trade, maybe we just haven't found the link.
