Interesting thread - I'm glad you didn't give up.  :D

Are you after more information about William ROBERTSON and Janet WALKER? It may be best to post on the Scotland board. I see that there is a couple of this name married 1 Aug 1801 St Andrews and St Leonards Parish (160 / 93) and also a reference on 31 July 1801 at Leuchars Parish (10 / 396) in Fife. (on Scotland's People)

Yes, my search to expand my knowledge of my Robertson family can now continue - and thank you very much for those leads!

James Robertson, born 1801 in New Monkland, son of William Robertson and Janet Walker, married Jane Waddell in New Monkland in 1822 and had eight of a family. Jane died and James married Margaret Robb in Glasgow in 1855, and had four more children. He died in Glasgow in 1877.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

(Fairly sure it is 'Jean' and not 'Jane' that I am looking for - her first grandchild was given 'Jean' as a middle name even though the child's mother had 'Jane' as a middle name.)
The spelling is irrelevant as the names Jean and Jane (and sometimes Janet) were used interchangeably. It's not uncommon to find the same person named as Jane in some documents and Jean in others.

That's interesting, so if KennyDs information is correct, must be another couple. Or it's back to the drawing board, and more research required.
