Thanks Keyboard86, certainly looks like it (never heard of Upper Tean but have found it on the map now).

Oh well, back to the drawing board.... think i've exhausted Staffordshire marriages and deaths now - unless the age is way out.

Not found anything to suggest so Groom, but I am beginning to wonder if Mary Ann and her mother (Hannah) moved away somewhere (though Hannah is still with her elder daughter in 1881) as they now both appear to have disappeared 

Apart from Elizabeth and Mary Ann, Hannah only had one other surviving child - Thomas (my great grandfather) who married in Hanley but moved from Staffordshire via Yorkshire to South Wales. Neither Hannah nor Mary Ann are with Thomas and family in 1891 in Cardiff.
