Random household member Charles Hall
« on: Monday 13 February 17 14:27 GMT (UK) »
I can't understand where Charles Hall, referred to as a son aged 19, fits into the household of Alexander (54) and Elizabeth (44) Cameron and their 5 children (20, 7, 14, 10 & 6) in the St Pancras 1861 Census.
Any ideas?

He's 19 not 10.

First thought, without looking further into it, is, as his name is below the family and above a "visitor" it could be that "son" was written in error and he may also be a visitor or a boarder, though looking at the other children's birth places, the family appear to have gone back and forth from Scotland to London.

Possibly an adopted son?  :-\

Thanks Ruskie - corrected my typo re his age to 19

My guess had been that it was an error and that he could be a lodger or visitor, but wondered if I might be missing something else

Have you located the family, and Charles, whether with them or not, in 1851?

I haven't found a reliable 1851 census for any of them.
I think I have an 1871 Census for just Elizabeth (55) with Alexander junior (27) and Catherine (16)
at Langford Rd, St Pancras
1861 was Hastings St, St Pancras

Have you found the parents marriage?  With Charles fitting between 2 of the other children - aged 20 and I assume the 7 should be 17 - it could be that this is a second marriage for both of them with Elizabeth having one child and Alexander one or more children from their previous marriages.

I haven't found the marriage yet to confirm (or otherwise) whether they were previously married
