Elusive PARGITER Croydon Surrey

Hello All,

Trying to establish one Henry Charles PARGITER (if that is his real name!!) who married my great grandmother Sophia Rose WOOD in Croydon register office in 1903.
They had 4 children all born Croydon and were living at 4 Cromwell Road, Croydon, Surrey on the 1911 census but by around 1914 Henry Charles had deserted his family but to where we don't know??!!
On the marriage certificate he gave his age as 27 but in the census of 1911 he had only aged 6 years, giving an age of 33 on the census and place of birth as NK(not known).
He named a Thomas Patrick PARGITER profession slater(deceased) as his father.

After sometime now I have been unable to establish anything else about him aprt from his name on all the childrens birth certificates. Family rumour has him as a bigamist, the son of a Kentish policeman but that's about it.

So any help on braking down this brick wall would be well and truly appreciated!!!

What names witness the marriage?
What's the addresses on marriage?
What's the groom's occupation?
All census look up transcriptions are Crown Copyright http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

FreeBMD has Sophia Rose Wood marrying a Henry Thomas Pargiter. Was he Henry Charles or Henry Thomas?

London Schools Admissions & Discharges has the following record
Ivydale Road School Borough of Southwark.

Henry Pargeter Admission date 30th Jan 1888 Born 9.12.1879
Parent THOMAS

Thomas Pargeter b. 10/3/1878 age 6.
Their home address is difficult to read something like Katto Rd?

Prior school Private school wandsworth.

Both removed from Ivydale Rd School 18th July 1890 to ISLINGTON

Father and son have the right names (ish!).
Young Thomas is of the right age.
And they are living in Croydon!
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

He is actually quite a bit older than Jon's Henry Thomas.  He was born Thomas Henry Braye PARGETER in 1872 and is with relatives in 1911.  He appears to have been a man of leisure.

Hi All,

Wow didn't expect replies so soon and thanks.

Umm have apology to make as pointed out in one of the replies. Yes, it should be Henry Thomas PARGITER I am trying to find!! In my haste to post I had a memory lapse, sorry again.

The witnesses on the marriage certificate were both sisters of Sophia Rose, they were Edith WOOD and Helen(should be Ellen) Elizabeth (WOOD)BANKS married name and addresses given at that time were 39, Johnson Road, Croydon, Surrey for Sophia Rose WOOD and 32, Union Street, Croydon, Surrey for Henry Thomas PARGITER.

I have located Henry in the Ward’s Directory of Croydon but only up until 1912, after that it is only Mrs Pargiter at Cromwell Road, Croydon.

Anyway thanks again for help and replies so far!!
