Hi Rosie thankyou very much for your prompt and helpful reply,  l did know that he took his own life in that year but the manner of it has really shocked me  although he is not related to me in any way as l am building a family tree for a very good friend, l knew there was a newspaper report but l have not as yet been able to see it but l hope to do so in the near future, the next problem is how much to tell my friend who is his grandson.
Once again many thanks for your help regards Barry.

The report says that it was suicide while temporarily insane.  He had suffered from consumption for several years and had been to the County Sanitorium but only kept there for four months.  On returning to his home his mind became unhinged  and he was peculiar at times. On Tuesday he cut his throat with a razor and ran out of the house collapsing before reaching the street.

The jury rider was of the opinion that 4 months sanatorium treatment in a case of this kind was inadequate and a sheer waste of public money ....
The coroner agreed with the verdict

I agree it was very sad.  The system then was definitely inadequate for mental health issues.
