Thank you KGarrad for this information.  There are so many George Grahams, it's a bit of a problem.  I can't order a certificate for each of them or any of them without being absolutely sure (our exchange rate is very bad and a certificate is really expensive), and William George's siblings don't seem to be visible anywhere to corroborate which would be a great help.  All three of them died in SA.

I am interested in Thomas Graham born Isle of Man 1802 and I did look at that, but all the census records point to his year of birth being exactly 1809. Apart from Familysearch there are really good Isle of Man records on the Net, but nothing for a Thomas that I could find.

Interesting that you state it is not part of England, because I actually did know that - oddly enough.
:-)

I had a look at the iMuseum (www.iMuseum.co.im), but I can't see any other baptisms up to 1820?

Do you have any idea as to which parish he came from?
There are microfiches of baptisms at the Museum Library, but they are by parish, and cover nearly 200 years!

Baptisms on iMuseum:
John Graham, 1802, Malew, John Graham & Jane Hall
Allen Graham, 1804, Malew, John Graham & Jane

Mary Graham, 1809, Marown, parents John Graham and A. Stephen
William Graham, 1810, Marown, John Graham and Anne Shepherd
James Graham, 1814, Marown, John Graham and A Sheppard
William Graham, 1814, Marown, John Graham & A Sheppard
John Graham, 1814, Marown, John Graham & A Sheppard
Catherine Graham, 1814, Marown, John Graham & A. Sheppard (last 4 all same date? 28th December)

John Graham, 1810, Onchan, Wm Graham & Sarah
George Graham, 1812, Onchan, Francis Graham
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

No, none of those Malew or Marown are mine.  Graham was such a common name in Cumberland and who knows who is related to whom way back.  But if my Thomas was born in IOM it helps me to sort them out.

Interestingly the incidence of the surname Graham in the world now...

United States            217,579
England                     44,343
Canada                     32,112
Australia                     27,100
South Africa               13,004

In 1881 there were 33 incidences in the Isle of Man and 13,168 in Scotland.

Hi
There is a George Graham registered in Whitehaven in the sept quarter of 1878 mothers maiden name Fox  GRO ref vol 10b page 661

William mmn Fox reg Whitehaven march 1870 GRO ref 10b 569

Thomas mmn Fox Whitehaven Sept 1872 GRO ref 10b 591

John mmn Fox Whitehaven Dec 1875 GRO ref 10b 624

Joseph 1881 died 1882?

Mary ann Whitehaven Sep 1884 GRO ref 10b 627

I think that if George was born in Cleator Moor the registration district would be Whitehaven

Hi Julie

Could you please tell me which source you look at to find these births (mentioned above) where they give the mother's maiden name?  I am interested because I looked everywhere and did not see that information.  Maybe it is an option not available to the general public?

It's from the official GRO site. You must register to search, but it's free. :)

Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.
