Manitoba not included in 1861 census.
Did you order Mary's 1936 death certificate?  If her informant knew her parents names that information would be included in the certificate and it is not expensive.
Obituary notice in Winnipeg paper noted that she was born July 12, 1849 Selkirk, Manitoba and was the daughter of James Muir.  One brother survived her.

added:
FamilySearch.org has census indexes for Manitoba from 1832-1870.  These are heads of household only.  Unindexed so it would take awhile to find Muir surnames.  Since Mary married in St. Andrews, Lisgar you might center your search in that area.

Oh I was looking for a Margaret Muir born 1857 and I saw a few mary.S  on ancestry searches i

I rejected the ones that weren't mine.   Could she have been working as a servant in 1871 ?

What town please ?

I was mostly looking in Scotland

What other information do you know about her to help me do a look up  pls ?

Is it Canada ?
