Clues from a birth cert
« on: Saturday 25 February 17 21:39 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Any ideas what the bottom two lines in the left box and the bottom two of the right box say?
This is a birth cert. The child is illegitimate but the father is listed. The left box is where it would normally list the date and location of marriage. The right box is under the fathers signature.

It's almost too close up to read, could you take a scan of a slightly larger area, showing more of the document? Or give a link?

Welcome to rootschat J.  :)

I agree with Dublin that a better scan including a bit more or the surrounding writing may help.

My first thought is that the last word in the left box look a bit like "Abode" ....

Added:
Looking again, and without having much knowledge about Irish* place names, I see:

Left box:
_ami__l      Derry_ill_d
Abode

Right box:
_oodside    of   W Ren_
Boo__die

 :-\

*Is this a Scottish cert?

Hi J,

Hope you don't mind, thought this may look a bit better?

You haven't stated where, which would give us a clue for searches?

My thought on the left side;

Domestic Servant
Domicil, Berryhillock ?
Ab'sh (Aberdeenshire) ?

My thought on the right side;

John -------
Father
Reidside ? of -----
Boyndie

Annie

Added, Can you please post an expanded view (above/below/sideways) for letter formation comparison as the writing is pretty difficult to work out & also what the column headings are?

Ruskie,

You're good with maps, can you see what you can find please on either of those places or both for Berryhill/Berry Hill, Aberdeenshire & Reid/Reedside, Boyndie (Aberdeenshire), if anything but of course we don't know the era  ::)

Hi Dublin,

I forgot to mention earlier (was in between doing other things), it looks to me to be a Scottish cert?

If so, no link as it will only be on SP unless added to a tree which will only have the same image.

I think it may say 'Woodside' rather than 'Reidside'
