A witness to that marriage is Ann Aylward. There is a William and an Ann both baptised Islington with parents William ( brick maker) and Ann.

William- born August 27th 1823 residence Ball Pond.

Heywood,

April 1848 was the last recorded date by the Philanthropic Institute but no address was offered as to where he was working with his father.

His mother's name is definitely "Elizabeth" as recorded by the Philanthropic Institute, so "Ann" has to be discarded unfortunately.

In that case then, you would need to discard the marriage to Charlotte Archer and the 1851 census.

It seems that it is back to the beginning. :-\

Sorry haywood, that was my fault as I didn't explain properly that the age 28 in the 1851 census tied him back to a different family.

What's confusing is that there seems to be three William Aylward Sr's in London in 1841 - all Bricklayers or Brick Makers, two of which appear to be married to women called Ann.

William aged 50 in Bond Street, Southwark with 60-year old Ann.  Son William 20
William aged 45 in Park Street, Southwark with 45 year old Elizabeth.  Son William 13
William aged 44 in St George Row, Hanover Square with wife Ann 40 & daughter Ann 17.

The first two are bricklayers and not born in County.  The last one is a brickma (sic) and is born in county.  The assumption is that the William who married Charlotte is the son of No.1, but as he was a brickmaker he could equally be a son of No 3 (father & son were both brickmakers on the marriage record).

There is a burial on 19 Apr 1848 in Islington of a William Aylward aged 52, which fits age-wise with William No. 2 or 3, although it's interesting that BAC3 says the last sighting of William Jr was also April 1848.   Only a death certificate is likely to sort that one out!

Thanks Jomot.

There is an infant death also for a William Aylward linked to Henry Street. However, this would seem not to be BAC3's William.

I presume that your interest BAC3 comes from a connection to one of William's sisters?

Where are they or his parents in 1851?

Good Evening Everyone,

Thank you for taking such an interest in William AYLWARD Jnr.

Jomot's posting is extremely important, in that the only option that fits with the above is the second one, that is, parents William and Elizabeth and any mention of Ann as his mother must necessarily be discarded.    This is the only thread to follow, especially as they are specifically named in the primary sources completed on information given by William AYLWARD Jnr. himself.

I shall now light a candle and impersonate Wee Willie Winky 8)

For now,

BAC3

Hello,

William AYLWARD Jnr., born 01/04/1829, parents William, a Bricklayer, and Elizabeth AYLWARD, two sisters Elizabeth (born 1816) and Mary (1821), all living in 1841 in St. Saviour, Southwark.

Thank You

BAC3

Disregarding any others then, you have 1841 census and the baptism given suzard which matches the date of birth you have here.
Where do you have sisters Elizabeth and Mary and, if still living, William snr and Elizabeth in 1851?
