Jessie Butters Grimsby Lincolnshire England adoption
« on: Saturday 04 March 17 23:01 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for any info about the adoption of Jessie Butters born Grimsby 1886. On the 1891 census she appears in Grimsby aged 5 as the adopted daughter of Jno Hy Smith and Mary A E Smith and again on the 1901 census as a servant in Market Rasen Lincolnshire. She married William Carpenter Mawer in 1905 and had six children three of whom died in infancy.
Any info regarding her adoption and\or biological parents would be appreciated.
Thank you

Welcome to Rootschat.  :)

Formal adoption did not start until 1927 so it is unlikely that there will be any records.  There is a baptism for a Jessie Butters, born 21 March 1886 and baptised 22 May 1886 at St. James, Grimsby.
Parents William, a labourer, and Mary Jane.
