Completed:Emigration 1904
« on: Wednesday 27 July 05 19:50 BST (UK) »
I found on a naturalisation site that a Thomas HB Yelland migrated from Southampton to NYC on the 7th May 1904 on the St Paul. I would like to know who he was with and where he was going to.Thomas came from Cornwall.
I am unable to find that date on the Ellis island site although I have traced on that site Thomas in 1900 when he was 19 years old.
Thank-you.

Hi Maryanne,

On the 1900 US census I have found a Thomas Yelland, born 1881, emigrated 1900, a copper miner boarding with a family in Calumet, Michigan
Also in Calumet is a James Yelland, age 34, his wife and family. (Including a son named Thomas) James emigrated in 1882 and is also a copper miner. I wonder if James is an uncle to Thomas?
Copper mining was common in Cornwall.
Maybe Thomas went back to England...changed his mind and went back to the US again!!!
Let me know if you need the full census transcriptions
Cheers,
India

I'm sorry...I'm confusing the issue.

The Thomas Yelland on the 1910 census is the same one who emigrated in 1900.

Let me know if you want him

Here you go:

1910 Census
Michigan, Ontonagan Co.
Rockland Township.
Yelland Thomas, Head, 29, 6 years in present marriage, b. England. Father b. England. Mother b. England, occupation miner, Copper mine
Yelland Ethel, Wife 24, 6 years in present marriage, b. England, Father b. England, Mother b. England.
Both can read and write
Yelland Roy, son, 5, b. Michigan
Yelland Verna, daughter, 1 1/2 ? b. Michigan

Ref: T624 Roll 667  Part 2  Page 284A.

I have looked for this family on the 1920 and 1930 census but with no luck.

Do you know were they lived at that time?

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
India
