Yes I thought that. I remembered seeing the aunt on the census and then when it was mention about the young child I too immediately thought they were the same! So afraid we are back to square one.

Can't give up yet - Sarah the aunt is 40 widowed born Liverpool so should in theory be possible to trace her back. 

She is half the age of Esther so they can't have been sisters.  It doesn't say wife's aunt but maybe it wouldn't differentiate anyway.  Thomas' wife came from Liverpool so Sarah could belong to her which wouldn't help us  :-\

Two couples but two of the names are of interest

Henry Ryder
Sarah Rigby

Yes that is the right couple - marriage 14 Jun 1858 - now to see if it helps!
