Hi Dawn,

HMS Victory was the main Portsmouth Barracks and was recently renamed HMS NELSON.

By 1959, possibly a lot earlier,  the WRNS had theyr'e own Barracks in Portsmouth, sorry the name of it escapes me at the moment. Never had the privilige  ::)

HMS DOLPHIN was maybe still is, not sure, the Naval Submarine training school, it is on the Gosport side of Pompey Harbour.

Dear Salty ;DMany thank's for the info. One day when I am back in the UK ( I live in Australia now ) I will have to go and have a look around.Mom was at some time assigned to the sign writing shop. She had the job of painting the crests that were on the ships and submarines I think. When one of them was destroyed a duplicate was placed in the memorial chapel.

Do  get in touch with the Association of Wrens (wrens.org .uk)- there are loads of WW2 Wrens still about (my Mum is one of them and I'm a member virtue of being in the WRNR) - lots of Wrens still aren't on e-mail and you  could possibly contact someone with good old pen and paper.

WRNS Association has lots of meetings around the country and anywhere our Wrens ended up - Australia, NZ, Canada, Holland etc. etc. even here in Wales. They have a quarterly magazine too - you could send them a letter...
