I am on catchup.  Brigidmac, I've seen your message (from a year ago) and will have a good think about it very soon.  I've had my FH material packed away for a while, but keen to get back to it.  I'll be in touch.

Hi Sheena,

For some unknown reason there seems to be a lot of missing info. for the 1871 census' in parts of Scotland.

I have never thought to investigate as to why this is but it's not uncommon.

Do you have all Catherine's female children?

May be worth looking for a Macphee (with variants)/Brown marriage?

Unless Jessie was a 'Mrs' herself?

Annie
i looked for some information on my family in the 1871 census and found that the original records were so faint it was almost impossible to read. Most of the records I looked at in Greenock Town centre were the same. Possible the original census was filled out in pencil.
GREENOCK, SCOTLAND.  Blue, Boyle, Brown, Byrne, Fitzpatrick, Harrison, Scully, Sweeney.
OLD KILPATRICK / DUNTOCHER, SCOTLAND. Brown, Angus, Martin.
CO ANTRIM. N.IRELAND Harrison, Marshall, Hamilton, Bamford.
DUN LAOGHAIRE / DUBLIN, IRELAND. Breslin, Byrne.
ROSCOMMON, IRELAND. Breslin, Brislan, Kilalea.
