The Death of James Russell GARTH either Detroit or Palm Beach, Florida

Preston North End had a player in the 1940's named James Russell GARTH born in Bridgeton, Glasgow in 1922.  The archivist records show that he died in Detroit 1968 but other info says Palm Beach, Florida 1972. Is there any way some kind person could double check this for us

The Michigan death index has a James R. Garth born 1 May 1922 and died in Detroit on
1 Jun 1972.  His residence was Dearborn Heights, Michigan.

The Social Security death index has the same man whose Social Security number was issued in Florida (a more detailed database shows it was issued in 1954) - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J2NT-M23
