There don't seem to be any Gills in Gamlingay on freebmd although baptism records seem to cover the period when he was likely to be baptised. Perhaps he was not born there but lived there as a young child and he thought he was born there as that was the earliest place he remembered.
Or he may have been born there but baptised elsewhere, if his family had moved when he was a baby, or he could have been born in his maternal grandparents house (quite common, especially if he was first child) and baptised a few weeks / months later where his parents actually lived.
