Well I am amazed at the kind generousity of those who have helped me. I have much to go on now.  Comberton, the records you have found ties up as Julia's first born, Mary Jane turns up on the 1881 census of my great grandmother, Suzanna as Mary Broughton, Aunt from Somerby. Thank you for your hard work. Thank you to also to Carol W for census details.

Happy to help. You may already have this.
Charles Waterfield baptism
17th December 1828, St Margarets, Leicester
Parents John Waterfield & Julia

Is your Charles the one married to Susanna Squires and in Leicester in 1861 as a tailor?

I'm intrigued to find a John WATERFIELD (19, b Leicester) as a convict in Westminster in 1851.

So many of the con's seem to be shoemakers.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Geoff-E - John Waterfield died about 1830 and I've seen that record and am sure that's not him as he was a Carpenter. A lot of my family were shoemakers, heel clickers etc but all from Leicester. Thanks anyway.

Geoff-E - John Waterfield died about 1830 ... he was a Carpenter ...

I was suggesting that the one in clink may have been the son, John Frederick (or perhaps you've found him elsewhere)

On the baptisms of Mary Jane and Charles, John (Snr) was a Millwright.

Coincidentally, a James WATERFIELD currently owns the Maud Foster mill at Boston. http://www.grocerdirectory.co.uk/companydetails.aspx?id=6743

Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Haven't found anything for John Frederick apart from his baptism. We haven't got a James in the family at all even now but thank you for that. I haven't actually seen the baptism record for Mary Jane or Charles. All I know about John is the fact it says deceased on the marriage record of Charles and Carpenter in the occp box. I'd love to have a copy of the baptisms if you could manage them please.
